Community foundation awards scholarships

The Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation has awarded over $15,000 in scholarships to area students for the upcoming academic year.

  • The Charles and Velma Westerman Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors and graduates of Ellsworth High School. Hannah Wilson, Ellsworth, and Sydney Wilson, Ellsworth, both received a $600 scholarship; Janae Schulte, Ellsworth, received a $450 scholarship; Micah Bolton, Ellsworth, Kara Rodriguez, Ellsworth, and Lukas Sebesta, Wilson each received a $300 scholarship; and Bransen Schulte, Ellsworth, Caden Whetzel, Ellsworth, and Grant Gwinner, Ellsworth, each received a $250 scholarship.
  • The Dawn L. Pruitt Memorial Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors and graduates of Ellsworth High School. Grant Gwinner and Janae Schulte both of Ellsworth, each received a $500 scholarship.
  • The Eleanor Hunter Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Wilson High School. Mason Prester, Wilson, received a $1,000 scholarship, and Kaleigh Hanzlick and Tristan Soukup both of Wilson, received a $416 scholarship.
  • The Fran Malir Memorial Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Wilson High School. Kordel Kriley and Tristan Soukup both of Wilson, each received a $350 scholarship.
  • The Geraldine L. Anschutz Memorial Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Wilson High School. Ethan Dlabal, Wilson, received a $350 scholarship and Kordel Kriley and Mason Prester both of Wilson received a $270 scholarship.
  • The Jack R. Janousek Memorial Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors and graduates of Ellsworth High School. Hannah Wilson and Kara Rodriguez both of Ellsworth received a $311.50 scholarship.
  • The Lila Jean (Warta) Young Memorial Scholarship is for graduating Ellsworth High School seniors planning to go into a medical profession. Hannah Wilson and Grant Gwinner both of Ellsworth received a $900 scholarship.
  • The Mary Hanzlicek Memorial Scholarship is for graduating Wilson High School seniors who are members of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and attend CCD and CYO. Ethan Dlabal, Mason Prester, and Tristan Soukup of Wilson each received a $1,645 scholarship.
