Scholarship recipients announced

The Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation has awarded over $15,000 in scholarships to area students for the upcoming academic year.

  • The Charles and Velma Westerman Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors and graduates of Ellsworth High School. Lukas Sebesta, Wilson, received a $1,200 scholarship; Zachary Schneider, Kanopolis, received a $900 scholarship; and Darrell Gustin, Brookville, Dominick Kratzer, Kanopolis, and Janae Schulte, Ellsworth, each received a $450 scholarship.
  • The Dawn L. Pruitt Memorial Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors and graduates of Ellsworth High School. Dominick Kratzer, Kanopolis, and Janae Schulte, Ellsworth, each received a $1,000 scholarship.
  • The Eleanor Hunter Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Wilson High School. Taylor Siburt, Dorrance, received a $500 scholarship; Grant Weinhold, Wilson, Katelyn Zelenka, Wilson, and Katrina Zorn, Dorrance, each received a $350 scholarship; and Camden Meyer, Dorrance, received a $250 scholarship.
  • The Fran Malir Memorial Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Wilson High School. Taylor Siburt, Dorrance, received a $500 scholarship and Katelyn Zelenka, Wilson, received a $250 scholarship.
  • The Geraldine L. Anschutz Memorial Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Wilson High School. Grant Weinhold, Wilson, Katrina Zorn, Dorrance, and Kendyl Zorn, Dorrance, each received a $317 scholarship.
  • The Jack R. Janousek Memorial Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors and graduates of Ellsworth High School. Darrell Gustin, Brookville, received a $500 scholarship.
  • The Lila Jean (Warta) Young Memorial Scholarship is for graduating Ellsworth High School seniors planning to go into a medical profession. Darrell Gustin, Brookville, received a $775 scholarship.
  • The Mary Hanzlicek Memorial Scholarship is for graduating Wilson High School seniors who are members of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and attend CCD and CYO. Grant Weinhold, and Katelyn Zelenka, both of Wilson, each received a $2,468.50 scholarship.

The foundation is home to eight scholarship funds, which were established by area donors to support students pursuing higher education. More information about the scholarship program can be found at www.smokyhillscf.org/scholarships.
