Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation accepting grant applications

ELLSWORTH, Kan.—The Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation is now accepting applications for spring grants. Online applications are due Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Last spring, the charitable foundation awarded the Wilson Community Foundation with funding to continue the multi-phase Wilson Czech Tourism Hub project. The first phase included the creation of an interactive tourism board and creation of seven four-foot Czech eggs to guide tourists through the historic district of Wilson.

The second phase of the project guides visitors to the different sites. “We have heard from past residents and tourists how helpful they are finding different locations in the city,” said grantee Melinda Merrill.

This year over $75,000 is available to charitable projects in Ellsworth County. Grants will be awarded from the following funds:

  • Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund – available for programs and projects that address education, health care, community social services and security, conservation and environment, arts and culture, and community beautification.
  • Smoky Hills Community Fund – available for projects that improve the quality of life for Ellsworth County residents.

Grants are limited to communities in Ellsworth County and will be awarded through a competitive application process. Nonprofit organizations, government and public entities, educational institutions and churches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on March 15.
