Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation scholarships available

ELLSWORTH, Kan.—The Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2020-2021 school year. This year, over $18,000 is available to Ellsworth County students through the foundation’s nine scholarship funds:

  • Caryle Jean Bender Memorial Scholarship, for graduating high school seniors from Ellsworth High School or college freshman or sophomore students that have graduated from Ellsworth High School planning to major in medical technology, pre-medicine or biological sciences.
  • Charles and Velma Westerman Scholarship, for graduating high school seniors or graduates of Ellsworth High School.
  • Dawn L. Pruitt Memorial Scholarship, for graduating high school seniors or graduates of Ellsworth High School.
  • Eleanor Hunter Scholarship, for graduating Wilson High School seniors.
  • Fran Malir Memorial Scholarship, for graduating Wilson High School seniors.
  • Geraldine L. Anschutz Memorial Scholarship, for graduating Wilson High School seniors.
  • Jack R. Janousek Memorial Scholarship, for graduating high school seniors or graduates of Ellsworth High School planning to major in either meteorology or the medical field.
  • Lila Jean (Warta) Young Memorial Scholarship, for graduating Ellsworth High School seniors planning to go into a medical profession.
  • Mary Hanzlicek Memorial Scholarship, for graduating Wilson High School seniors who are members of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and attend CCD and CYO.

All scholarship applications must be submitted through the foundation’s online scholarship portal by February 15, 2020. Scholarships will be awarded by mid-April. The application portal and scholarship guidelines can be found at www.smokyhillscf.org/scholarships

Last year, the community foundation awarded over $15,000 in scholarships to 25 area students.
