Many of you have heard about the incredible $15 million gift from Drs. David and Katrina Seitz to the University of Kansas (KU).

Drs. David and Katrina Seitz have included KU in their will (called a bequest) that will provide $15 million after their lifetimes. That money will build on a scholarship they started back in 1993 to help rural Kansas students with preference given to those from Ellsworth and those planning to practice family medicine.
This bequest is so large that it will become the largest single scholarship fund at the KU School of Medicine, providing the equivalent of 17 full-tuition scholarships for Kansas medical students.

Dr. David Seitz grew up right here in Ellsworth, where his family roots run deep. Generations of the Seitz family served Ellsworth through pharmacy and medical care, from his great-great-grandfather George (who founded Seitz Pharmacy in 1867 and whose pharmacy still serves us today) to his parents, who dedicated their careers to health care in Ellsworth.
This gift honors their legacy and ensures that future doctors, potentially your kids or grandkids, can get help going to medical school. The scholarship will continue to give priority to students from Ellsworth and those interested in family medicine.
Dr. Seitz hopes these scholarships will encourage new doctors to return to rural towns like Ellsworth, keeping quality health care available here at home.

While our foundation is not managing these funds, we believe sharing opportunities like this helps build a stronger, healthier community. Supporting future doctors from Ellsworth is one of the best ways to keep rural health care vibrant.
